May 2004 Connections. “The Christian life,” says Marcus Borg in The Heart of Christianity: Rediscovering a Life of Faith (HarperSan- Francisco, 2003), is about the Spirit of God opening our hearts in thin places.” This metaphor, based on Paul’s speech quoted in Acts, came to Borg from Celtic Christianity, which began flourishing in Ireland and parts of Scotland, Wales, and northern England in the fifth century.
